The Montauk Monster is Real

If you haven’t heard, a monster has washed up on a New York shore.  Some say it’s a hoax.  Others say it is a dog, perhaps a pit bull, that has succumbed to the effects of ocean water.  Still others are quick to say it’s a sea-turtle that lost its shell.  Theories, and conspiracy theories abound.  There is supposedly a government facility offshore that is creating mutant creatures and this one escaped.  Then again it could be a latex dummy.  A hoax.  The story has been carried by major networks and online news sources.  Perhaps it’s only a dead pig.  Or maybe the devil has hit shores of the Hamptons as one hapless person pointed out?

One thing is for sure.  Regardless of what you think it is, the Montauk monster is real.  In all of our imaginations, no matter what you think it might be or can’t be, in the back of your mind you can’t help but think “what if”?  It doesn’t matter what the “what if” might be.  The fact remains, it’s something.

And this, my friends, are how stories are born in the mind of a writer.  Let your imaginations run wild.  Ask “what if” and see what happens.  The Montauk monster might be the first of a series of mutations that turn up to haunt us.  Watch the shores and let the resulting stories inspire you.
