MindMap Your Novel

Outlines serve their purpose.  But what if your novel has a literal cast of thousands? How do you keep track of them and the places they habit? There’s an answer.  Mindmap!

Huh?

There are different software solutions on the market that will allow you to mindmap your novel to your heart’s content. My latest favorite is MindJet MindManager 7 .  I’m a Mac fanatic but there is a windowsversion of the software that actually offers a little more in the way of features.  How can MindManager’s solution help you?  Take a look below at a quick sample I created in a couple of minutes.

Get the idea? It can be done very quickly and is a perfect tool for brainstorming and capturing character traits. Once created things can be moved and reorganized at will.  Images can also be attached as well as hyperlinks or web pages.  As a research tool it is indispensable. I could easily go on and on about the benefits and applications of mindmaps but I’ll save that for later posts.

This kind of thing has limitless possibilities. You can use it to think about possible resolutions to the conflict in your novel or to see what different settings could add to the progression of the story.

I could even use it to organize my business!
Thanks for sharing.
:O)

I use mindmapping all the time. It’s a huge benefit for projects at home, capturing ideas for a business venture, etc. You would definitely see a huge benefit in using it.
