I’ve been blogging for awhile now and I have to say it can be quite addicting. Writing has always been my passion and one day I stumbled across blogging. It’s a great outlet and allows me to get my work out there. I can be myself (like here), or I can write under an assumed identity. I don’t need to seek a publisher to put my words out there. I am my own boss when it comes to my blog. I respect my readers so it’s my goal to put my best foot forward for them when it comes to my writing.
All that being said I have made some mistakes. The biggest one? I let my passion for blogging grow too fast. Writing comes easy to me and I could do it for hours. So at first I began to create new blogs to cover other interests. In other words, I stretched myself way too thin. At one point I had four blogs going. How does one put out quality work when quantity becomes the driver? Simple. You can’t.
So I had to cut back and stop work on a couple of my blogs. Essentially I had to close them down. I hated doing so. The passion was there but the time wasn’t. I needed to concentrate on one or two blogs in order to put out work I could hang my hat on.
My advice: If you’re a new blogger out there don’t stretch yourself too thin. Blogging is fun, therapeutic, and a wonderful creative outlet. The temptation will be there to begin writing about everything under the sun. You’ll buy domain names, design pages, and eventually find that you’ve bitten off more than you can chew. Keep it simple at first. Pick one or two things that you are passionate about to start with. Learn the craft and perhaps you can expand at a later date.
For you bloggers out there. What were your biggest mistakes when you started blogging?

I think my mistake was creating blogs with no theme (just of life in general), or with too narrow a theme (movie blogs).
There was never anything to write about. You need a broad theme, so you have a direct audience, and a topic when you sit down to type.
Very true CD. Luckily with writing I can find something to share or write about constantly. I can’t foresee the topic ever drying up on me. Brainstorming topics is the fun part!
