Blogging 101: Break The Blogging Shell
When I first started blogging I was shy. What? A shy blogger you ask? How is that possible - I’ve never heard of a shy blogger? Well - of course not. You never will hear of a shy blogger because they quietly post and hope to be noticed. Some will get noticed but with millions of people out there blogging how do you catch people’s attention?
Note to the shy. These methods will go against everything that comes natural to you. Great reasons to try them though huh?
- Find a Social Media Niche - There are many options here such as Twitter, Facebook, Digg, and StumbleUpon. Find one that you can let yourself grow in and get out there. You don’t have to reveal too much about your personal life. The point is to connect with people, listen, tell them about your blog, and create a circle of friends or possible readers.
- Read and Comment - Read other blogs. It will give you an opportunity to learn what others are doing and saying but also a chance to comment on their efforts. Tell them you appreciate them and offer your own thoughts. Get in the habit of doing this on a weekly, if not daily basis.
- Ask to Guest Post - Some blogs will have a spot where you can approach them about guest posting. Posting on a blog that isn’t your own is a very intimidating process. Talk about breaking out of your shell!
- Tell People - Let your friends or coworkers know about your blog. Some may read it and actually pass it on.
Throw caution to the wind and allow yourself to grow.

I don’t have a blog but I like to read them. I actually found you through Zen Habits. That blog is kind of a hub to find other blogs of interest. So commenting on them yourself can bring others to your blog.
Blogs are a great way to share information and encourage each other. You’ve been wonderful with that. That’s why I keep coming back. It’s allowed for great conversation and support. I also like finding ways to support you in your blog and with your writing. It makes me feel that I can give back to you. You have certainly given to me! And besides, I like your style!
