Annual Writer’s Digest Competition
It’s that time of year again. The annual Writer’s Digest Writing competition is entering its 77th year. The Grand Prize is $3000 as well as a trip to New York city where the lucky winner can meet with editors or agents. Manuscripts can be submitted online. Hurry up though. The entry deadline is May 15th, 2008!

Hi Laurie -
You would be surprised at how may authors feel the same way. Try not to think about how your work will compare with others. If you feel it is your best effort and that it may touch others the chances are that it will. I’m not a huge fan of competitions. Who is really to say a piece of writing is better than another? I’ve been touched by the simplest of stories in the past. Competitions are a nice way to be recognized however. I won an award when I submitted my very first play to a competition. At the time I wasn’t sure how it would rate compared to the work of other playwrights. It was a nice surprise and I truly believed in what I had created.
So Rick,
I’m contemplating this. I am afraid though, that my stuff wouldn’t even compare.
How do you decide? How do you know for sure if you are in their league?
